Maria Mitchell High School Natural Science Internship

High school interns are able to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Maria Mitchell Aquarium and Science Museum. Interns are able to gain experience with communication through speaking with museum visitors, maintaining facilities/equipment, and caring for animals.

Eligibility:

Must be at least 16 years old. Preference given to those with prior volunteering experience.

Young Scholars Program (YSP)

The Young Scholars Program offers future scientists and engineers a unique opportunity for a hands-on research experience while still in high school. Students conduct research in Northeastern Labs under the mentorship of university faculty and staff. Students receive a $1500 stipend upon completion of the program.

Eligibility:

Students must be permanent Massachusetts residents. Only students entering 12th grade in the fall following the program (current juniors) are eligible to apply. Students from any schools (public, private, home schooled, etc) are eligible.

Green Ambassadors

Paid summer internship program where teens living in the Greater Boston area gain experience in the environmental sciences through hands-on research. Through a partnership with the National Park Service, teens work on Thompson Island to help with ongoing conservation efforts. Participants are able to perform data collection, practice trail maintenance and invasive species removal, participate in overnight camping expeditions, and interact with environmental scientists.

Eligibility:

Must be 15-18 years old at the start of the program

Summer Fellows Program

Established in 1978, The Lundquist Institute’s Summer Fellowship Program is designed to encourage graduating high school seniors and high school juniors to explore careers in the field of biomedical science. Participants will spend the summer working with leading biomedical scientists.

Laboratory Learning Program

An immersive summer research experience where high school students are able to perform research in Princeton laboratories with the supervision of faculty and research staff. Participation dates range depending on the needs of researchers, but usually span 5-6 weeks. By the end of the program, students must submit a two page research summary report.

Houston Methodist Caring Teens

The Houston Methodist Hospital Caring
Teen volunteer program provides community
youth with opportunities for personal growth
and development. Volunteers provide supplemental
services in the hospital while gaining personal
satisfaction, development, maturity, and the
understanding of various health careers in
preparation for their futures. Caring Teens
serve others while making new friends,
networking with medical professionals at a
world-class hospital, developing self-esteem,
and creating meaningful memories.

New York County District Attorney's High School Internship Program


This is an internship for Manhattan residents that gives insight into the world of criminal justice. The program lasts from July 6th to August 7. Each intern is assigned to a unit within the office and helps assistant district attorneys and other staff members with their work. Interns also attend presentations and trips and participate in a mock trial competition.

Eligibility:

Applicants must live or attend school in Manhattan. Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors in high school by the time they apply. Applicants must complete a one page resume, 300 word essay, and obtain one letter of recommendation.

Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy

The primary goal of the Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy at City of Hope is to provide young people (high school and university students) with an opportunity for a "hands-on" research experience. This program seeks to find students possessing exceptional potential for performing biomedical research. Summer Academy students design and work on their own research projects in areas of their specific interests. City of Hope faculty members act as mentors providing valuable guidance and support, while also encouraging independent thought and exploration.

Eligibility:

Must be at least 16 years old before their internships, a high school student, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, complete the online application by the deadline, and most students submit additional materials such as transcripts, letters of recommendation and resumes, but these are not required.

High School Internship Program- Memorial Health System

This great opportunity gives high school juniors and seniors the unique experience of exposure to several health care occupations within the hospital and beyond. Students get to take part in 10 rotations including emergency, surgery, imaging, laboratory, etc.

Students must be entering Junior or Senior year of high school, and in 2021 students graduating from high school may apply as well

University of Miami: MusicReach Summer Program

The Donna E. Shalala MusicReach Program at the Univeristy of Miami Frost School of Music has a free program for students in grades 7-12 from June 15 to Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, campers will learn about music technology, music theory, digital media, production planning and even college application prep from guests artists and faculty. Campers choose their their two days of the week based on their availability.
