Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy

A paid summer enrichment program allowing high school students to explore careers in entrepreneurship. Students receive mentorship from local business owners and create their own business pitch for a change to earn seed funding during the program. By the end of the program, students will earn a certificate of completion and be eligible for college credit.

Eligibility:

Must be a high school students from an Appalachian state

Thinkabit Lab Summer Camp at the University of Michigan

A one-week STEM camp where students are able to complete hands on engineering projects, learn about engineering tools, and meet professional engineers. Students can have all of their engineering questions answered by professionals, and gain engineering experience.

Must be a current 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student

LLRISE

A free two-week residential program hosted at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory for rising high school seniors. Participants are taught to build small Doppler and range radar systems through hands on learning in a high-tech laboratory. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

Eligibility:

Must be completing junior year in high school, have completed or are currently completing physics and precalculus, and are a U.S. citizen.

Seattle Children's Research Training Program

Seattle Children’s Research Institute is committed to building an inclusive and diverse workforce, and inspiring the next generation of scientists, physicians, and healthcare workers. During the summer, our Science Education Department offers high school students the opportunity to learn more about biomedical research.

Seattle Children's Hospital Research Training Program for High School Students

The Research Training Program will host two identical sessions for three weeks each, with unique experiences in both the BioQuest Lab in 307 Westlake and the Science Discovery Lab in Building Cure. Students will learn how to work in a research laboratory environment and learn about topics including biochemistry, immunotherapy, gene editing and infectious diseases. Students will also participate in workshops on college readiness and career exploration. This program provides students with a solid foundation for a future career in biomedical research.

Eligibility:

The ideal candidate:

Has a strong interest in exploring a future career in biomedical research.
Is a current 10th grade (rising junior) or 11th grade (rising senior) high school student.
Has a local Washington mailing address.
Identifies as underrepresented (see below) in the field of biomedical research. Well-served students will also be considered.

Get Ready! STEAM Based Internship

Interns will work in occupational areas that contain one of the S.T.E.A.M. areas of focus. These internships allow youth to work in a professional work environment, allowing them to gain work ethic, work experience, and learn more about a S.T.E.A.M. centered career field. This is a 7 week internship, from June 7, 2021 – July 23, 2021.

Eligibility:

Open to all current (2019-20 school year) high school students at Austin-area high schools.
Must be between 15 – 18 years old.
Must be a rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Current Senior.
This application requires an essay of 250 – 500 words answering the following questions: What makes you an ideal candidate for this internship? What do you hope to gain from this internship?

Summer Law intern Program

Places high school students in law firms around the Dallas area for 8 weeks in the summer. This provides an intensive internship for students, along with development of career-readiness skills.

Eligibility:

Must be high school junior with an 85% or above average, and have no more than 10 absences in junior year.

NYU College Access Leadership Institute (CALI)

One week program that allows students to interact with New York University admissions officers learning about the college admissions process from renowned guest speakers. The experiences of the program lead to insights that are unique to students applying to college. Great opportunity to get a head start on your college application process!

American Foreign Service Association High School Essay Contest

This is the flagship program of AFSA's outreach efforts to high school students. AFSA's annual contest has challenged high school students, whose parents are not members of the Foreign Service, from around the nation to explore and research some of the most difficult questions related to the Foreign Service and American diplomacy.

Eligibility:

Students whose parents are not in the Foreign Service are eligible to participate if they are in grades nine through twelve in any of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories, or if they are U.S. citizens/lawful permanent residents attending high school overseas.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Summer Internship Institute

A summer internship program allowing high school students to explore the healthcare career. Interns are exposed to workshops and can choose to focus on one of several healthcare fields. Students also have access to mentors and networking opportunities.
